“Jazz needs trios like this” wrote one jazz critic on hearing pianist Marie Kruttli debut album.
Now in her early 30s, the Swiss born and Berlin based pianist grew up in a classical musical family surrounded by the music of Stravinsky, Debussy and Ravel. Since her earliest years she was marked out as a precocious talent destined for the upper echelons of European jazz piano.
There’s a bewitching virtuosity wrapped in a sophisticated musical language to her trio, who display a maturity of interpretation and delivery far beyond their collective age.
Marie Kruttli has collaborated with big international names including saxophonist Tim Berne and drummer Gerry Hemingway, and was one of the stand-out acts when she played the 2017 edition of 12 Points, the Improvised Music Company’s showcase of emerging European jazz talents.
