Great programme in place for 2010 festival
| | | | Bray Jazz Festival returns for its 11th year on the upcoming May Bank Holiday weekend.
Starting on Friday, April 30th, the festival will stage concerts, recitals and pub trail gigs at hotels, bars, theatres and other recital spaces in the town over the three days of the bank holiday weekend.
Described by All About Jazz last year as 'one of the very best small jazz festivals in Europe', we're delighted with the endorsement, and are working hard to live up to the billing.
Economics matter however, and like many others operating in areas of the arts we have been forced to scale things back slightly this year, but are confident that we have managed to again put together a recession-beating programme featuring some of the very best musical improvisers from both home and abroad. We hope that you'ill agree. | | | | | | | Remembering Django | Bray Jazz will pay a fitting tribute to the centenary of great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt by presenting one of the leading exponents of 'hot jazz' at this year's festival.
British guitarist John Etheridge, a one-time Stephane Grappelli collaborator brings 'Sweet Chorus' to Bray for what is certain to be a night of dazzling acoustic jazz in the tradition of the great Belgian born player.
And Etheridge is just one of a number of great guitar virtuosos who will play this year, as the festival will also welcome to town the brilliant Austrian improviser Wolfgang Muthspiel (left), and will also host a show featuring one time Steely Dan band member and guitar powerhouse Wayne Krantz and his trio. |

| | | | | Strong European roster | This year's Bray Jazz Festival will feature a strong programme of contemporary European jazz, with players travelling from Norway, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Great Britain and Italy to appear.
But it is not only to Europe that we turn, for masterful Senegalese kora player Solo Cissokho and Cissokho System will play our world stage, Trio Correntes from Brazil will also visit, and the Mediterranean and Celtic influences of Tarab also being presented.
A full programme will be available to download on this page in the coming days. | | | | Travel Advisory | Those travelling by public transport to this year's Jazz Festival are asked to note that last DART services to Dublin leave Bray Station at 11.20pm on Saturday nights, and not at 11.30pm as stated in our programme.
