Kenny Werner is a fluently inventive pianist and leader of one of the most acclaimed and influential piano-trios in contemporary American jazz.

bjf web kenny400With a decade-and-a-half of shared experiences and several strong albums already under its belt, the music of Werner’s trio morphs frequently, as rhythms prance, flow, stutter and stride in unexpected ways to take audiences on a lyrical journey through the vast seas of improvised music.

Drummer Ari Hoenig is just as likely to drive the action as he is to trace the melodic contours of a passage, while bassist Johannes Weidenmueller is a grounding force and a harmonically astute linchpin.

A Grammy Award nominated composer and the winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Kenny Werner is a wide-open reservoir of musical knowledge, imparts intelligence thought with his every movement.

A recording artists for two decades on the seminal Blue Note label, Kenny Werner is a giant of contemporary jazz who has worked with the best. He began his career 40 years ago playing duos with the great harmonica player Toots Thielemans, recorded several albums with saxophonist Joe Lovano, and has collaborated with a host of other major name figures including Tom Rainey, John Abercrombie, Tom Harrell, Chico Freeman, Dave Douglas and Chris Potter to name a few.

During his visit Kenny will also present his ‘Effortlessly Mastery’ workshop at Bray Jazz Festival.
