Chromb! are a thrilling young French band who combine their love for catchy pop with avant garde music to create scene-stealing high energy music that they describe as a ‘fat mutant sound.’
A four piece who make rock with no guitar and distorted jazz that draws its influences liberally from John Zorn, The Residents and Soft Machine, their music has the affect that one reviewer described as “like Rush, Johann Sebastian Bach and John Zorn playing together.”
Formed in Lyon in the French heartland, Chromb! have released two well received albums in recent years. They have toured widely since 2012, playing gigs in France, Italy, Spain and Belgium in support of acts such as Deerhunter and Young Marble Giants.
Their heady blend of avant garde, prog and jazz rock won the group the Young Audience Award at the prestigious Jazz RA showpiece in their native france, in 2014.
Chromb! is Camille Durieux (keyboards, piano, electronics), Leo Dumont (drums), Lucas Hercberg (bass, electronics), and Antoine Mermet (alto sax, electronics, vocals).
This concert is being performed as part of the “Jazz Migration” series established by AJC to support the professional development of new jazz groups.
