For 20 years Catriona McKay and Chris Stout have captivated audiences with their exhilarating and virtuosic live performances: the cascading rhythms of McKay’s harp dovetailing perfectly with Stout’s swooping, soulful violin.
Their unique sound, a celebration of music from Scotland's Northern Isles, imbues everything from Shetland reels to Swedish waltzes with a wonderfully atmospheric, almost cinematic quality.
Their music remains firmly rooted in tradition, but is enbued with the duo’s sense of adventure and spontaneity. Sparks will fly and hearts will be tugged in equal measure.
Having gigged, explored and sculpted their musical identities together, Catriona McKay (Scottish Harp) and Chris Stout (Shetland Fiddle) continue to evolve and create a sound and style “operating at a rarefied level of expertise” (The Herald).
They recorded their first duo CD “Laebrack” in 2005, and have been an integral and important part of Scotland's traditional music scene, since then. To many, Catriona McKay is the finest harpist in comtemporary traditional music.
In 2014 the duo played a hugely successful and acclaimed short Music Network tour of Ireland, in which they were accompanied by the legendary Kerry accordianist Seamus Begley.
We welcome them back to Ireland for what promises to be a magical evening of music in Bray Town Hall.
